Falender, Andrew J.

Andrew Falender spent his childhood years in Indianapolis. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan and went on to receive his MBA from Harvard. After his first year at Harvard, Falender took a year off from his studies and joined the Peace Corps and went to the Philippines. Prior to working at NEC, Falender worked at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), where he served in several capacities including Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner for Planning , Evaluation, and Management; Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of HEW; and Assistant Director of the National Institute of Education. While at NEC, Falender held the positions of Director of Administrative Affairs (1975-1977), Vice President (1977-1983), and Chief Executive Officer (1982-1988). Since 1989 Andrew J. Falender has served as the Executive Director of the Appalachian Mountain Club, a 78,000-member outdoor recreation/ conservation organization that promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise stewardship of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Northeast. Falender also serves on the New England Advisory Council for the Trust for Public Land..
