Biographical Note: Douglas Huntly Gordon, Jr. was a collector of art and books.
He was born in Baltimore in 1903 and graduated from the Harvard Law School in 1928. After a brief career in politics and academia, Gordon devoted himself to collecting and historic preservation in Baltimore, MD. He was particularly interested in French Renaissance studies and published "The Censoring of Diderot's Encyclopedie and the Re-Established Text" in 1947. Gordon's father, Douglas Huntly Gordon, Sr. (1867-1918) was a Baltimore businessman who graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1887. Gordon, Sr. studied with Richard T. Ely, professor of Political Economy at Hopkins. Douglas Huntly Gordon, Jr. died in Baltimore, March 24, 1986.

Douglas Huntly Gordon (1902-1986) was the son of Douglas Huntly Gordon (1866-1918), banker, of Baltimore, Md., and Elizabeth Iris Southall (Clarke) Gordon (1871-1958). Following her husband's death, Mrs. Gordon married first, in 1923, J. Wilmer Biddle of Philadelphia, Pa., and following Mr. Biddle's death in 1927, she married Alexander Gordon, a first cousin of her first husband. This last marriage ended in divorce in 1935.
