McClurg was a delegate to the Philadelphia Convention, 1787, to write the U.S. Constitution. Though he participated in its construction, he did not sign the document. McClurg was a Virginia physician educated at the College of William and Mary and at the University of Edinburgh. He practiced medicine in succession in Williamsburg and Richmond, Virginia and served as mayor of the latter.
