Charlot was born in Paris on July 26, 1882; press manager, business manager, and manager of various Parisian theaters and music halls, including the Folies-Bergères and Châtelet; appointed joint manager of the Alhambra in London in 1912 and was managing director of that theater until 1915; specialized in the production of revues and took his talents to the Comedy Theatre, The Vaudeville, St. Martin's, and other London theatres; broadcast 50 shows of Charlot's Hour for the BBC; moved to California in 1937 and worked briefly as a technical adviser to Paramount Pictures; staged The Charlot revue of 1940 at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood and Charlot's Revuette in 1941; acted in films from 1942 until his death in May, 1956.
