Local 915 of the United Mine Workers of America, located in Klein, Mont., was in existence by 1909. The union negotiated with the coal industry for increased wages, an eight-hour day, and improved working conditions. The group also provided injury and death benefits to members, and with several other area locals, maintained a cemetery. R.J. Boyle served as union president for many years.
