Harris, Albert, 1841-1905.

Albert Harris was born April 3, 1841, in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont, the son of James and Almira (Locke) Harris. He served in Company K, 15th Vermont Volunteer Regiment from August 28, 1862 to August 5, 1863. After his discharge he traveled west and arrived in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he joined the Quartermaster Corps and worked throughout the midwest and west, gathering men for enlistment in labor battalions and buying and moving cavalry horses from Saint Louis by boat to Nashville. In August, 1864, he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, and became a supervisor of a labor battalion.

At the end of the war, he traveled to New Mexico to mine for gold, and then moved on to California, where he worked for the Spring Valley Waterworks in the San Francisco Bay area, as well as spending a short time working on a ranch in Vallejo, California. In 1869 he traveled to White Pines, Nevada to mine for silver. By 1870 Harris had returned to Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. He married Lucy A. Powers of Lunenburg, Vermont on June 6, 1878. He remained in Saint Johnsbury, working as a farmer and general agent until his death on June 14, 1905.
