Mary P. Hopkins was born 11 June 1874 to William & Sarah (Reader) Philp in Michigan. Philp is the correct spelling of their surname. William and Sarah moved to Vernon, Isabella, MI where he homesteaded, was the first blacksmith, and a musician in the township. They had nine children.
