George Deliverance Wilson was born in Shelbourne, Vermont, on December 28, 1807. Ill health forced him to leave Vermont, and he traveled to Ohio after hearing of the newly founded Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was given a copy of the Book of Mormon by Joseph Smith, and baptized into the Mormon faith in August 1834.
