Biography Note

Allen Carrier Blaisdell, founder and first director of Berkeley's International House, received his primary education in Beloit, Wisconsin, and in Claremont, California. After obtaining his degree from Pomona, he went on to the Union Theological Seminary, graduating in 1923. He then accepted posts in churches in Utica, New York, and South Hadly Falls, Massachusetts, until 1927 when he became assistant director of the International House in New York City. In 1928 he arrived in Berkeley to establish an International House for foreign students on the West Coast.
