Fessenden, Anne
Anne Lathrop Fessenden is an American teacher, poet, and memoirist. She studied at the University of Paris, Sorbonne (1947-1948), received her BA from Barnard College (1949), and received her MA and PhD (1971) from Columbia University. In 1949, she received a Fulbright and studied at the University of Bruxelles. She taught French and English at several universities, including Pennsylvania State University, Columbia University, and Amherst College. From 1985 to 1996, she taught American and English literature at universities throughout China through the Institute of International Education. She is the author of two volumes of poetry, Around Some Corner (1966) and Land in the Sky (1974), and her poems and writings have appeared in numerous publications. She was awarded an Iowa Writers Workshop teaching-writing fellowship (1970-1971), Virginia Center for the Creative Arts fellowships (2001, 2005), MacDowell Colony residence (2004), Yaddo residencies (2005-2006), and many other fellowships and artist residencies. Since 1988, she has been an affiliate of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Research at Harvard University.
