La Follette, a friend of John Sloan, was born in Washington state. She was a writer of conservative issues and was founding editor of The National Review. She also wrote and edited for such magazines as The American Mercury and The Freeman and was active in early anti-Soviet causes. She wrote several books, including "Art in America," which followed the course of American artistic development from the Colonial era.
