Seaton, S. L. (Stuart Luman)
Stuart Luman Seaton was born in 1906. His education included undergraduate work at the University of Maryland, George Washington University, University of Chicago and University of Alaska. Seaton did graduate work in mathmatics and physics at George Washington University. He worked for the Carnegie Institute of Washington, D.C. and came to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1943 to assist in establishing the College Observatory, which he headed from 1943 to 1946. Seaton helped to establish the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska and served as its director from 1948 to 1950. He worked at NASA, for the U.S. military and as a management consultant before retiring in 1972. Seaton and his wife, Nancy Lillian Withnall Seaton, sailed around the world from 1972 to 1974 and recorded their adventures.
