Mary Eliot Dwight was born on January 24, 1821, the daughter of Edmund and Mary Dwight. On May 7, 1849, she married Dr. Samuel Parkman (1816-1854). They had two children: Henry (b.1850), who became a lawyer and married Frances Parker, and Ellen Twisleton (b.1853), who married William W. Vaughan. (As a footnote, Dr. Samuel Parkman's uncle George Parkman was murdered by Harvard professor John W. Webster in 1849, a notorious case in the annals of Cambridge.)
