Biographical notes:
The Stuart and Hummel families lived and worked in China as Methodist missionaries in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. R. Stuart Hummel worked as a cryptographer for the Navy during World War II, and for the U.S. Government in the Office of Chinese Affairs and the Office of Civil Defense.
