Heinz Wilhelm Guderian (b. June 17, 1888, West Prussia-d. May 14, 1954, Bavaria), General of the German Army and military theorist, served in both World Wars and was the author of Achtung-Panzer! which influenced the development of the core of the German Army's power during World War II. He was a commander in the invasions of Poland, France, and the Soviet Union and held posts including Panzer Corps commander, Panzer Army commander, Inspector-General of Armoured Troops, and Chief of Staff of the Army. General Guderian surrendered to American troops in May 1945 and was a prisoner of war until June 1948.
