Physician, of Boston, Mass., and Newport, R.I.; studied medicine in Europe; had apothecary shops in Boston, Meriden, Conn., and Hartford; lander developer of the Kennebec River Valley and promoter of the Kennebec Company; builder of towns of Pittston and Gardiner, Me.; Loyalist; fled to Halifax and England, later returning to Newport.
