Biographical notes:

Jane (Jean) Ferguson McNair, daughter of Thomas S. McNair and Mary Stevens McNair. In 1883-1893, she went to school in Hazleton, and in 1897 received her A.B. from Vassar College. She then studied nursing at Philadelphia General Hospital Training School, and in the summer of 1917 took some public health courses at the University of California. She worked as head nurse for the Detroit Copper Mining Company in Arizona, and from 1917 to 1920 was employed as a nurse in the Pasadena Hospital and the Pacific Hospital, Los Angeles. In November 1917, she joined Reserve Army Nurse Corps and was stationed in active duty at the Base Hospital, Camp Bowie, Fort Worth, Tex. From 1920 to 1938, she was worked in the nursing division of the Los Angeles City Health Department.
