Amy Sarah Roberts was born on July 13, 1876 in Hanover, New Hampshire to Augustus Harland Roberts (a grocer) and Mary Ann Richardson Roberts. She attended Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire and graduated in 1896. She attended Mount Holyoke College from 1896-1900 and majored in English Literature with minors in History and Latin. Following her graduation, she worked at Dartmouth College from 1901 to 1906 in the treasurer's office. On October 25, 1906 she married Lionel Hayward Jones and later had four children. She died at the age of sixty-eight on July 28, 1944 in Hanover, New Hampshire.
