Biographical notes:

George W. Beadle (b. 1841?), born in England, was a Union soldier during the American Civil War who served first in the 10th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, and then later in the 18th Independent Battery of the Ohio Light Artillery. After the war, he settled in Plainwell, Michigan. During the last year of the war, he corresponded heavily with Rachel Smith of Chattanooga, Tennessee, whom he married after the end of the war.
