Biographical notes:
Graduated 1922 B.S. Electrical Engineering and M.A. Education in 1928 from North Carolina State College. Educator, Assistant Director, then Director of Extension at North Carolina State University, 1928-1965. By his retirement in 1965, adult education at the university exceeded twelve thousand students as compared to only a few hundred in 1934. As the first man to serve as full-time director of General Extension, Ruggles personally developed two courses which gained national reputations: the Sport Fishing Short Course and Driver Training School.

Edward Wolfe Ruggles (1900-1982) graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1922. He was a member of the Electrical Engineering faculty, 1926-1928. Ruggles became Assistant Director of the College's Extension Division in 1928 and Director in 1934. He served in this capacity until his retirement in 1965.
