Baptist minister of Bucks County, Penn.; removed to Charleston, S.C., and became pastor of the [First] Baptist Church in 1750; during American Revolution, fled before arrival of the British Army in 1780, and accepted the pastorate of Hopewell Baptist Church in Mercer County, N.J., where he resided until his death; husband of Anne Maria Sealey Hart (1740-1813); brother of Joseph Hart (1715-1788); son of John Hart (1684-1763).
