Biographical notes:

Viola Meynell, the daughter of English writer Alice Meynell, who developed a writing career around short stories, novels, and poems. Meynell is best remembered for the memoirs of her parents written in 1929 and 1952.

Meynell, daughter of poet Alice Meynell and editor Wilfred Meynell, was raised a Catholic. Her first novel, Martha Vine: A love story of simple life (1910), was published anonymously. She authored numerous novels, memoirs, and introductions, and served as editor for several collections of letters of publishing figures throughout her career. Meynell was married to John Dallyn with whom she had a son. Her final novel, Ophelia, was published in 1951. Meynell died in 1956.
