Biographical notes:

Francis Frith, was born in Chesterfield, in 1822. An early exponent of photography, Frith set up his own company in 1859 in Reigate, publishing photographic views. He travelled around the world taking photographs and in later years employed additional photographers to satisfy demand. Frith died in Cannes in 1898, but the company continued to operate until its closure in 1971.
