Biographical notes:
Fenollosa was a poet and student of Oriental art. He taught at the Imperial University of Tokyo (1878-1886) and was manager of the Tokyo Fine Arts Academy and the Imperial Museum. From 1890 to 1897 he was curator of Oriental art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
