Houston was a delegate to the Continental Congress and Constitutuional Convention from New Jersey. He was a professor (1771-1783) at the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) and lawyer -- Walton from Georgia was in the Continental Congress, (1776-1778), served as Governor of Georgia (1779-1780), the U.S. Congress (1780-1871), served as Chief Justice of Georgia (1783-1789), Governor of Georgia (1789-1790) and in the U.S. Senate (1795-1796).
