Biographical notes:

Milton McGreevy was born in Chicago on January 27, 1903. His family moved to Kansas City during his youth and he graduated from Westport High School. McGreevy received a bachelor's degree from Harvard, and then earned a degree from its graduate school of business in 1926. Following this, he came back to Kansas City to work at his father's brokerage - Sternberg McGreevy & Co. The firm was merged several times and finally became Smith Barney Harris Upham & Co., from which he retired in 1979. McGreevy also sat on the board of directors for many prominent local and Midwest industries, and served as a trustee of several non-profit organizations. He was a member of the Museum's Board of Trustees from 1949 to 1980. Before this McGreevy was a past president of the Friends of Art. During his tenure on the board, he was instrumental in the creation of the Nelson Gallery Foundation. McGreevy also established several funds for the purchase of art, and gave the Museum many old master drawings. Milton McGreevy died on July 1, 1980, at the age of seventy-seven.
