Biographical notes:
Artist. Artist and draughtsman for the New Zealand Company, 1839-1841. Held various positions in the New Zealand civil service including draughtsman in the Survey Office from 1848; Auckland Provincial Surveyor to NZ Government from 1864; Commissioner of Native Reserves, 1869 and Land Claims Commissioner, 1870. Awarded the Victoria Cross for service in the 1863 Waikato War.
