Hartshorne served the Pennsylvania Limited Suffrage League as treasurer (1911-1912) and corresponding secretary (1911-1915), resigning in December 1915 in a disagreement with the governing board of the league. In her later years she was active in the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters . She was married to Edward Yarnall Hartshorne and had two daughters, Emily and Clementina.
