Variant namesBiographical notes:
A specific railroad company is never mentioned in this collection, but it is likely that the documents originated with the Atlanta Consolidated Street Railway Company which was formed from the 1891 merger of the Atlanta Street Railway Company, the Gate City Street Railroad Company, the Fulton County Street Railroad Company, the West End & Atlanta Street Railroad Company, and Atlanta & Edgewood Street Railroad Company. The state of Georgia first issued a charter for the construction of these urban rail systems in 1866. The first types of cars ran on cast iron rail lines and were pulled by mules and horses. The streetcar system allowed individuals from outlying areas to commute into the city. In 1902, all street railways in Atlanta were consolidated into Georgia Railway and Power Company.
