Biographical notes:

Lucy Cherry Crisp, a native of Edgecombe County, N.C., studied music at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina and later attended Columbia University, Boston University, and Radcliffe College. During her career she taught music, worked for religious organizations, and directed art galleries and museums in Greenville and Raleigh, N.C., and Florence, S.C. She wrote numerous articles, including newspaper columns for the Raleigh News and Observer and Greenville Daily Reflector. She prepared for publication a biography of George Washington Carver and the Civil War diary of Delha Mabrey.
