The purpose of the Crocker Land Expedition was to explore the land mass in the Arctic northwest of Grant Land that was observed by Admiral Peary in 1906. The expedition was organized in cooperation with the American Geographical Society and the University of Illinois and left New York in 1913. Expedition party members concluded that Crocker Land was not found because it did not exist, Admiral Peary having been deceived by a mirage.
