Albery, James, 1838-1889
Biographical notes:
James Albery was born in London, England on May 4, 1838 and was a dramatist. He is best known for his comedy, Two Roses, that was produced at the Vaudeville Theatre in 1870; the production ran for 300 performances. Other plays include A Pretty Piece of Chiselling (1864), Dr Davy (1866), Coquettes (1870), Pickwick (based on Dickens's The Pickwick Papers (1871), Pink Dominos (1877), Jingle (a farcical version of Pickwick) (1878), Oriana (with music by Frederic Clay); The Spectre Knight (operetta with music by Alfred Cellier) (1878), Brighton (1888). He authroed a book, Where's the Cat? in 1880. Albery married actress Mary Moore and had one son, Bronson Albery (1881-1971), a theatre director. He died August 15, 1889.
