Biographical notes:
Chita Rivera (born Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero, January 23, 1933, Washington, DC- died January 30, 2025, New York City) began her career in theater after a successful audition to George Balanchine's School of American Ballet. She got her first role on Broadway in 1951 and is known for several original Broadway roles: Anita in West Side Story, Rose in Bye Bye Birdie, and Velma in Chicago. She is also the first Hispanic woman to receive a Kennedy Center Honor (Dec. 2002) and was awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009).
