Seamstress, credited with having made the first American flag bearing the Stars and Stripes at the request of George Washington, Robert Morris and George Ross. Full name: Betsy Griscom Ross Ashburn Claypoole; married John Ross (1773), Joseph Ashburn (1777) and John Claypoole (1783).
