Ursula K. Le Guin is an author noted for fantasy, science fiction, and children's literature. Born in California, her father was an anthropologist and her mother was a writer; she was educated at Radcliffe and Columbia. Her diverse and respected short stories and novels are built on themes of balance and the environment, and often express feminist concerns. Praised for creativity, elegant prose, and complex characters and settings, her work has won numerous awards.
