John Twiggs (1750-1816) of Burke County, Ga., major general during the American Revolution, married Ruth Emanuel and was the father of David Emanuel Twiggs (1790-1862).

John Twiggs (1750-1816) moved to Georgia from Maryland. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and a Major-General of the Georgia Militia. In 1783 he brokered a treaty commission in Augusta for the State of Georgia with the Creek Nation in order to obtain new land.
