Biographical notes:

Edward E. Schweitzer, a machinist from New Philadelphia, Ohio, enlisted in the 30th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Sept. 1861. With his regiment, Schweitzer fought in Pope's Campaign in Northern Virginia, Maryland Campaign and the battle of Antietam, Siege of Vicksburg, battle of Chattanooga, Atlanta Campaign, Sherman's March to the Sea, Siege of Savannah, and Campaign of the Carolinas. He was discharged in August 13, 1865. After the war, Schweitzer farmed and worked as a clerk in a general store in Port Washington, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. In 1870, he spent several months at a sanatorium in Wernersville, Pa. In 1871, he went to Windsor, Henry Co., Missouri, returning to Ohio in the spring of 1872. In the 1880s, he moved to Minneapolis, Minn.
