Charles Moore was born in Ypsilanti, Oct. 20, 1855, son of Charles and Adeline (MacAllaster) Moore; received A.B., Harvard, 1878; Ph.D., George Washington University, 1900; married Alice Merriam, 1878; engaged in newspaper work in Detroit, 1878-1895; secretary to Senator James McMillan, 1889-1903; clerk, U.S. Senate Committee on District of Columbia, 1891-1905; was secretary of Union Trust Company Detroit, 1904-1906; chairman, Union Trust Company, Detroit, 1906-1908; secretary, Security Trust Company, Detroit, 1904-1906; chairman, Submarine Signal Company, 1906-1908; secretary, Security Trust Company, Detroit, 1908-1914; acting chief, Division of Manuscripts, Library of Congress, 1918-1927; member, National Commission of Fine Arts, 1910-?; president of Detroit City Planning Commission, 1912-1919; member of commission to plan U.S. war cemeteries in Europe, 1923; received various awards and decorations; was author and editor.
