Biographical notes:
The Adams-Morgan Better Neighborhood Conference and the Hollyday House were two organizations formed in the mid-1950s to combat blight and promote urban renewal, restoration, and pride in community. Hollyday House was located at 2316 17th Street, NW and was a restored house. It was named for Guy T.O. Hollyday, former Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration, for his efforts as an advocate for better housing. Mrs. Florence N. Cornell, long-time principal of John Q. Adams School, was prominent in both groups. She was the first executive director of Hollyday House, commencing her work in November 1959.
