Biographical notes:

Begay (b.1927), a Fort Defiance, Arizona native, served in the Marine Corps from 1944 to 1966.

He served from 1952 to 1953 in Korea with an anti-tank company in the 1st Marine Division. From 1964 to 1965, he served as a staff sergeant and tank mechanic in Vietnam. He married in 1960 and had six children. After his service, he worked in San Jose (California) and, in 1991, moved to De Pere (Wisconsin).
