Biographical notes:

Horace Taylor Morse was born on 30 August 1905 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He earned his B.A. in 1928, M.A. in 1930 and Ph.D. in 1939 from the University of Minnesota. From 1932-1936, Dr. Morse taught history at Wright high school and Ironwood Junior College (Ironwood, MI). He joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1936 as instructor in education. He was promoted to assistant professor in 1939, associate professor in 1941 and professor in 1945. Dr. Morse was appointed as assistant director of General College in 1940, became associate director in 1941, director in 1945 and dean in 1946. He held these positions until his death in May 1966. Beginning in 1965, the University of Minnesota Alumni Association has awarded the Horace T. Morse award to University faculty in recognition of their outstanding achievements in undergraduate education.
