Biographical notes:
Free African-American carpenter and owner of property in Camden, S.C.; born enslaved in Virginia; relocated to South Carolina by 1792; by 1793, Conway had purchased his freedom; father of Mrs. Epsey Conway Johnson and Edward Conway.
