Biographical notes:
San Antonio, Texas, actor and Spanish-language radio and television personality Lalo Astol was born Leonardo Garcia Astol on Dec. 2, 1902, in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico. He was the son and grandson of travelling actors. He began his career on stage in Mexico as a child, and performed in Mexico and South Texas in the theatrical companies of Socorro Astol, Leonardo F. Garcia, Manuel Cotera, and others. Astol began his radio career in 1940. He wrote, directed, and performed in many radio and television programs in San Antonio, including many on KCOR--the Spanish-language station started by Raul Cortez in 1946--and on KCOR-TV.
