Biographical notes:

The State Bureau of Facilities Management (WIHV85-A777) became the Division of State Facilities Management in 1979. It was re-named the Division of Facilities Development in 1992 and in 2003, it was renamed the Division of State Facilities. In Wisconsin State Archives' database entries, the above form of the agency name is used for all appropriate records dating 1979 to the present.

The Division has overall responsibility for developing and carrying out the State Building Program under the direction of the State Building Commission (WIHV87-A1486), providing primary staff services to the Commission. The Division also advises the Commission on the issuance of state debt.

The Division is responsible for statewide facilities planning and evaluation, real estate acquisition and leasing services, architectural and engineering design and consultation services, management and field supervision of approved construction projects, and the administration of state architectural-engineering and construction contracts.

In 1990, leasing services were transferred to the Division of Buildings and Grounds which became the Division of Buildings and Police Services (WIHV96-A497) in 1992.
