Wood Products Extension at North Carolina State University is a part of the Cooperative Extension Service, College of Natural Resources, Department of Wood and Paper Science. Wood Products Extension was created in 1958, when the Extension Forestry Department split into two sections, Extension Forest Management and Wood Products Extension.

Wood Products Extension was originally part of the Agricultural Extension Service under the Smith-Lever Act (1914 May 8). This act provided for agricultural extension work by agricultural colleges across the country. It also produced a system of county farm agents that were stationed at land-grant colleges. In 1958, the Extension Forestry Department split into two sections, creating the Extension Forest Management and the Wood Products Extension . Today, the Wood Products Extension at North Carolina State University is a part of the Cooperative Extension Service, College of Natural Resources, and Department of Wood and Paper Science .
