Biographical notes:

Washington E. Lindsey was born near Armstrong, Ohio in 1862. He moved to Portales, New Mexico around the turn of the century. He served as United States Commissioner, County Clerk of Roosevelt County (1905-1909), Mayor of Portales (1909-1910), Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico (1916), and became Governor of New Mexico on the death of Governor C. de Baca.
