Biographical notes:
John Frederick Schroeder (1827-1896), the son of Rev. John Frederick Schroeder (1800-1857), an Episcopalian minister, and Caroline Maria Boardman Schroeder (1802- ), of New Milford, Conn., was born on 13 October 1827. The Schroeders lived in and near New York City beginning in 1823. From 1846 to 1852, the elder John F. Schroeder was minister of the Church of the Crucifixion in New York. He also conducted a girls' school called St. Ann's Hall, and young women attending the school regularly boarded with the Schroeders. In addition to the younger John F. Schroeder, the Schroeders had six other children, three of whom survived to adulthood: Cornelia Elizabeth (1831- ); Elizabeth Margaretta (1833- ); and Henry Herman (1845- ). In 1849, the younger John F. Schroeder graduated from Columbia University. In 1852, he received a degree of Bachelor of Divinity from the General Theological Seminary. Between 1857 and 1871, Schroeder is listed as a deacon in the annual Journals of the New York Protestant Episcopal Convention. The _Churchman's Yearbook_ for 1870 lists him as living in [New] Milford, Conn.; he was unmarried and living in New Milford in 1895.
