Collection materials concern the Neisler, Letcher, and Mitchell families. Family members include a governor of Virginia and members of Congress. Dr. Hugh M. Neisler (1805-1884) was an authority on botanical science and freshwater mollusk, and a variety of Iris bear his name as discoverer.
