Biographical notes:

Born July 22, 1912, Cicero, IL.; died December 24, 1994, Chicago, IL. Educator and author. Biestek recieved his Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in 1939 and a Masters' degree in Sociology from St. Louis University in 1940. Following his ordination in 1945, Biestek attended the Catholic University of America where he received a Master of Social Work in 1949 and a Doctor of Social Work in 1951. Appointed to the School of Social Work at Loyola University in 1951, he remained on the faculty for 25 years, during which he was recognized as a leader in the field of Social Work education serving as chair of the Commission on Accreditation for the council on Social Work Education and on the board of directors and ethics committee for the National Association of Social Workers. In addition to his career in Social Work education, Biestek served as a member of Loyola University Chicago's board of trustees and Superior of the Jesuit community at Loyola.
