Stebbins, Kathleen Brown, 1905-1962
Biographical notes:
Mrs. Stebbins was born in Rochester, New York in 1905. She earned a B.A. from Smith College in 1927 and a B.S. in Library Science from Columbia University in 1936. She received an M.A. from New York University in 1953. Mrs. Stebbins began her library career at Rochester Public Library, 1927-31. She worked as assistant society editor on the Rochester Times-Union and Democrat and Chronicle, 1931-35. She was the first librarian of the Grolier Society, 1936-37. From 1937 to 1940 she was a promotion writer for Crowell-Collier Publishing Co. She served as Executive Secretary of the Special Libraries Association 1940-53. In 1953 she came to Detroit to become Personnel Director of the Detroit Public Library. She held that position until 1962. Mrs. Stebbins was married and had a daughter, Susan Stebbins Georgii. She is the author of Personnel Administration in Libraries, and many articles on special libraries and librarianship. Mrs. Stebbins was a member of the American Library Association, Special Libraries Association, and American Society of Training Directors and served on many committees of these organizations.
